Past Events

The Guelph Agri-Food Network is excitied to host a tour of a few amazing agri-food hotspots in the Guelph-Wellington area. To showcase research innovation in industry and academia, our first and second stops will be Semex and the Elora Dairy Research Center. Stop three will be at the Guelph Food Bank to learn about how they source and distribute food. Lastly, we will cap the tour off with some tastey pints and a tour of the Wellington Brewery!  

Audrey Martin, a CGIL Ph.D. Student, will present a CGIL Seminar on Friday, February 15th. The seminar will begin at 1:30 pm in room 141 of the Animal Science & Nutrition building.  

Lucas Alcantara, a CGIL Ph.D. Student, will present a CGIL Seminar on Friday, February 8th. The seminar will begin at 1:30 pm in room 141 of the Animal Science & Nutrition building.  

The Ph.D. Defence for Christopher Powell has been scheduled for Monday, February 4th, 2019 @ 2:00 p.m. in Room 141, Animal Science & Nutrition Building. The examining committee will consist of: Examining Chair: Vern Osborne Advisor: Dominique Bureau Adv. Committee Member: John Cant Additional Member: Dan Tulpan External Examiner: Ian Forster   Thesis Title: “Quantitative description of growth trajectories exhibited by aquatic organisms using different modelling approaches”.

Mehdi Emam, a DVM and Ph.D. Candidate in the Department of Pathobiology at the Ontario Veterinary College, will present a CGIL Seminar on Friday, February 1st. The seminar will begin at 1:30 pm in room 141 of the Animal Science & Nutrition building.  

The CCSAW Student Chapter is happy to have Dr. Lisa Kramer come in and talk about the limitations of animal models in predicting human responses to drugs and diseases. Lisa Kramer is Professor at the University of Toronto and has previously been a Visiting Scholar in the Department of Psychology at Stanford University and at the Rady School of Management at the University of California San Diego. She completed her PhD in financial economics at the University of British Columbia.

Our first department meeting for Animal Biosciences will take place Friday January 25, 2019 at 3:00 PM in ANNU 141. Starting this year we will have a department meeting in one month, followed by a faculty meeting in the next month. Hope to see you all there!    

Dr. Marcos Yamaki, a Project Geneticist at Aviagen, will present a CGIL Seminar on Friday, January 25th. The seminar will begin at 1:30 pm in room 141 of the Animal Science & Nutrition building.  

The Graduate Student Council (GSC) would like to invite ALL GRAD STUDENTS to our Welcome Back Event at Buffalo Wild Wings onThursday, January 24th from 11:30 am - 1:00 pm. Dr. Ricardo Ventura, a Young Researcher at FAPESP in Brazil and a CGIL Collaborator, will present a CGIL Seminar on Friday, January 18th. The seminar will begin at 1:30 pm in room 141 of the Animal Science & Nutrition building.
